When deputies arrived on the scene, they found 49-year-old Jay Jackson in the parking lot, with one hand in his shorts pocket and told them he had a gun. Videos show deputies ordering Jackson to surrender, but he refused to comply. Video shows Jackson removing a handle of a Gillette razor from the front pocket of his shorts and charging toward a deputy who fired a single shot, hitting Jackson in the chest.
